EcoMill Installation at the Wake Forest Gym
Installing the EcoMill treadmills in the Wake Forest gym is the second option for Wake Forest in order to make the gym more energy efficient. If Wake chose this option, they would purchase ten treadmills to replace the current energy consuming treadmills. The calculation of the total cost of doing this is below.
Total Cost = $7,995 x Number of Treadmills
$7,995 x 10 = $79,950
While this does seem like a costly option, it is important to remember that it would be saving the school 806.4 kWh per week that the treadmills normally use. Each kWh at Wake costs $.0843 (North Carolina). The next calculation demonstrates how much money the school would be saving each week and how long it would take the school to pay off the system.
806.4 kWh x $.0843 = approx. $67.98 per week
52 weeks in a year x $67.98 = $3,534.96 per year
$79,950/$3,534.96 = approx. 22.6 years to pay off the treadmills
It is important to remember that while after 22.6 years the school will no longer have to pay for the treadmill’s energy use; it will still have to continue to pay for the stair master’s energy use. In addition it will have to pay for the lights, televisions, and fan electricity use. This option does not make the gym entirely energy efficient.
