EcoMills: The Manual Treadmills
Woodway is an exercise equipment company that just developed a technology for an energy efficient treadmill. These are known as EcoMills. An EcoMill treadmill does not require any energy input at all; it is a completely manual machine. The curvature of the treadmill allows a person to choose the speed they wish to run or walk (WOODWAY EcoMill Manual Treadmill). Each of these treadmills costs $7,995 (Phone Call with Woodway). While this initial investment may seem costly, Woodway has made the promise that their equipment has the lowest cost of ownership (WOODWAY EcoMill Manual Treadmill). In comparison to other treadmills whose belts need to be changed every 40,000 to 60,000 miles, EcoMill’s running surface lasts up to 150,000 miles before it needs a belt change (The WOODWAY Difference). In addition, these treadmills are one of the most compatible pieces of equipment for ReRev technologies (WOODWAY EcoMill Manual Treadmill). On the downside though, these treadmills would be completely new technology for most users. Many people are not used to working out on manual treadmills. The process in which one begins to work out on a manual treadmill is different from that of a regular treadmill (Woodway Treadmills). Therefore, it would take some time and adjustment for users. Over time though, people would get used to the technology.
